REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
HANDRAIL REPLACEMENT LEARNING CENTER
The Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) is seeking proposals for the replacement of approximately 103 linear feet of non-compliant handrails with a new handrail system which meets the requirements of 29 CFR Part 1910.29 et al. The new handrail system shall be installed at the mezzanine level in the Learning Center of the Limestone Community School. The top railing shall be 42 inches above the walking surface of the mezzanine with appropriate midrails, balusters and toe boards and be able to sustain a 200 pound load test as specified in the above regulations.
The scope shall include:
1. Removal of existing electrical plug-mold along the rails;
2. Removal of existing rails and supports, as needed;
3. Installation of new handrail system (new handrails must connect to existing stair rails at each end);
4. Mount new plug mold and tie in to existing electrical service;
5. Perform necessary touch-up of all painted and other surfaces affected by construction activity.
Materials selected must blend in with the existing architectural features of the mezzanine. The final design of the handrail system and mountings shall be sealed by a licensed professional engineer licensed to perform engineering services in the State of Maine. The contractors are encouraged to offer any alternatives they wish to propose that meet the regulatory requirements.
The contractor shall be solely responsible for providing protection of all areas surrounding the work. A "hot work" (cutting, welding, grinding, etc.) plan must be submitted to MSSM's site supervisor for inspection and approval before the start of work.
The contractor shall provide proof of insurance for liability and workers compensation within one week of award of the work.
A pre-proposal inspection of the existing facilities shall be on July 17, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics' office. All interested bidders must be present at pre-bid inspection.
Bids are due on July 24, 2017 at 4:00 pm. (Late bids will not be accepted.) Bids must be addressed: Handrail Bid, c/o MSSM Business Office, 95 High Street, Limestone, ME 04750.
